Oil on canvas glued to masonite, 24x30"
This is a depiction of the windjammer Pamir entering the Cape Horn. A true windjammer the Pamir was built and launched in 1905 by Blom & Vosss ship yards in Hamburg. She carried a total of 40,900 sq. feet of sail and could reach 16 knots. These windjammers were built for strong winds and extreme weather conditions. The Pamir was the last commercial sailing ship to round the Cape Horn, in 1949. Sadly she was lost in a hurricane in 1957...
