River Springs, an area of farmland and woods intersected by a network of creeks that empty into the Potomac River, is at the heart of the Seventh District of St. Mary’s County, Maryland, In the 20th century, this remote and tight-knit community was home to the largest concentration of wooden boat builders in the southern part of the state. Apart from the occasional skiff, commercial wooden boat building here is now a thing of the past.
